About the Author

Steven Cord is a professor-emeritus in history from Indiana University of Pennsylvania (14,000 students) in Indiana, Pa. and has been president and founder of the nonprofit Center for the Study of Economics dedicated to urban economic research. He has a doctorate from Teachers College, Columbia University and now lives in Columbia, Maryland .

Cord's research is responsible for property-tax reform in 20 jurisdictions (more soon). He has prepared 17 studies, each demonstrating that this reform has actually promoted new construction and renovation with no total tax increase at all, and he has devised 31 mathematical formulas, 26 procedures and 42 legal suggestions necessary to implement it.

He has also written two books, one of which was published by the University of Pennsylvania Press and is currently available from the Robert Schalkenbach Foundation. He has also published numerous booklets and articles and currently edits two periodicals. He won the I.U.P. Faculty Research Award when it was first offered in 1969 and won it again in 1976 (the only repeater). He is also the recipient of two Achievement Awards from the Council of Georgist Organizations.

He has been married for almost 50 years and has three grown children and five grandchildren (as of this writing).

It took him three years to write this book. It was written at the I.U.P. Library and is based on 7,400 notes and a lifetime of reflection. He will be glad to hear from readers, who can reach him through the publisher.
